A The altitude simulation is created by decreasing the percentage of oxygen in the air. The air unit pumps in air that is 13% oxygen, which mixes with normal 21% air. It is then monitored by the controller, which contains an oxygen sensor that keeps the percentage of oxygen at the desired equivalent altitude (usually 9000 feet).
